BURGER WARS
California's famous Fatburger stacks up new San Antonio location

Fatburger is opening its fourth San Antonio location.
San Antonio's burger wars are heating up with a new location of cult Los Angeles restaurant Fatburger opening at 4250 TPC Pkwy. #101. State filings estimate that the Alamo City's fourth location will be ready to flip patties by November.
Fatburger's California roots span back to 1947 when founder Lovie Yancey opened Mr. Fatburger with her husband. In an admirably petty move, she dropped "Mr." from the name following the couple's 1952 split, growing the brand into a regional icon.
In 2022, parent company Fat Brands announced an aggressive Texas expansion that would bring 80 locations of its flagship brands — Fatburger, Round Table Pizza, and Buffalo's Express — to Alamo City. The first Fatburger brick-and-mortar, a shared location with Buffalo's, opened in May 2024.
Fatburger is known for its no-frills signature burger piled with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and relish. Although the chain leans on nostalgia, it does follow culinary trends. Sandwich options now include gluten-free buns, vegan cheese, Impossible patties, and a low-carb Skinnyburger subbing in two meat patties for the sponge-dough bun.
The menu also includes milkshakes, hot dogs, onion rings, and hand-cut French fries, available in both skinny and thick cuts. Several locations also offer wings dressed in a variety of sauces, from sweet teriyaki to coconut jerk.
The new Fatburger arrives as two of San Antonio's local burger obsessions are also making bold expansion moves. On June 7, Alamo City-owned Burger Boy opened its 10th location in Windcrest. Whataburger countered with growth plans of its own: new outposts coming soon to 6311 Old Pearsall Rd. and 10411 Shaenfield Rd.
According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation project details, the newest Fatburger will begin renovations in July and wrap up in early November. A grand opening date has not been announced yet, and it's unclear if the space will also house Buffalo's Express.
