OPENING ALERT
Jazzy new restaurant to open in San Antonio's St. Paul Square

A new St. Paul Square restaurant is noodling on what fine dining means in 2026. Miles, a new concept named after jazz great Miles Davis, will open May 22 in the former home of Francis Bogside at 1170 E. Commerce St., bringing an improvisational menu and a cool cat vibe.
The restaurant comes from Tatanka Guerrero of Dreamers & Doers, the hospitality group behind El Tigre Coffee Roasters, Al Campo in Marfa, and Trona in Austin. Chef Steven Lopez, formerly of Hotel Emma's Supper and founder of Nomad Provisions, will lead the kitchen, while another notable local chef will have an unexpected role. Matt Garcia, fresh off a CultureMap Tastemaker Award for Rising Star Chef of the Year, will take off the toque to run front-of-house.
True to its namesake, Miles will do a lot of riffing on familiar dishes. Snapper ceviche gets some summertime freshness from melon, while a “crème de la crème” plate pairs country ham with caviar, béchamel, and buttered brioche. The butcher’s steak is slathered with gochujang carrot butter.
The menu served at the central bar is even more of a goof. Fries are presented as a “service,” a gentle mocking of one of contemporary dining’s most self-serious trends. Guests can pair a fish sandwich “Happy Meal” with a High Life pony or gin martini and finish with a seasonal doughnut. And — trend alert — Miles will be another San Antonio restaurant getting diners amped up on caviar bumps.“
San Antonio has been really exciting for us, and Miles feels like the natural next step,” said Guerrero, in a release. “With this concept, we wanted to create something that feels intentional, welcoming, and full of energy - a place where people can come in for great food and drinks, but stay because the room feels alive.”
Reservations are now open on Resy. After the Memorial Day weekend opening, regular hours will be Wednesday through Monday, 5 pm to midnight, with extended service until 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays. You can get a sneak peek of the interior here.
Still to come is Condor, a South American-influenced wine bar in the former Anne’s space next door. Dreamers & Doers says bottles will be popped in the upcoming weeks. Meanwhile, Gigi's Deli, Garcia's sandwich shop, will be on hiatus through June.
