Shaq will drop the needle on San Antonio September 18.
Shaquille O’Neal is adding another hyphen to a long resume that already includes all-time dunker, restaurateur, and frequent foil to Charles Barkley. The basketball legend — aka DJ Diesel — will be making a stop at San Antonio’s 1902 Nightclub (1174 E. Commerce St.) on September 18.
Although Shaq has the chance to do the funniest thing by mixing Jock Jams, he is arguably bass music’s most famous fan. In 2023, he even created a Fort Worth bash devoted to the EDM genre, Shaq's Bass All Stars Festival. This year, he will stop by four Texas metros — Houston, Dallas, El Paso, and San Antonio — although it's unclear if he will welcome guests.
“I usually come to Texas once a year for my festival… but this year we’re mixing it up and doing a full Texas Takeover, wrote O’Neil on Instagram.
Shaq’s deejay spin may seem left-field, but he has been producing music since 1993. His debut album, Shaq Diesel, went platinum and spawned a top-50 hit, the New Jack Swing-inflected “(I Know I Got) Skillz.”
Since then, he has worked with a diverse group of artists, including Steve Aoki, Riot Ten, NGHTMRE, Eliminate, and 4B. His latest release, 2023’s Gorilla Warfare, explored hip-hop, dubstep, house, and trap.
Tickets for Shaq’s San Antonio engagement start at $49.37. Promoters say the dress code at the St. Paul Square hot spot will be "relaxed," allowing sneakers but no shorts or jerseys (Lakers and Magic included). The 18-plus show starts at 10 pm.
