1. 7 San Antonio-area H-E-Bs ring up grab-and-go upgrades. Seven San Antonio-area H-E-Bs are getting glow-ups to make the dinner crunch easier. In June, the hometown grocer filed state regulatory project details for several area locations as part of its ongoing Fresh Initiative.

2. Massive 544-acre mixed-use development to open near Seguin. Houston firm NewQuest has started work on Seguin Exchange, a 544-acre project at the junction of Interstate 10 and TX 46 that has been nearly two decades in the making.

3. UTSA ranks among best universities worldwide on U.S. News list. The University of Texas at San Antonio was named one of the best universities worldwide in U.S. News & World Report's just-released comprehensive list for 2026-2027.

4. Tiny burger sensation Small Sliders opens first San Antonio stand. Small Sliders, the tiny burger juggernaut sweeping the Southeast, opened its first San Antonio restaurant at 3103 Wurzbach Rd. on June 17.

5. Boerne brunch fave debuts sunny San Antonio café at the Rim. A popular Boerne all-day brunch restaurant is now beaming down to the Rim. Sunny’s debuted the new location on June 15.

San Antonio soars to top 25 on new list of America's best cities

San Antonio is soaring into America's 25 best cities for 2026, certifying the Alamo City as a cornerstone of the country's growth and economic prosperity.

San Antonio ranks No. 24 nationwide in the annual "America's Best Cities" report from Canada-based real estate and tourism marketing firm Resonance Consultancy. Each year, the report ranks the relative qualities of livability, cultural "lovability," and economic prosperity in 393 American cities with metropolitan populations of 500,000 or more.

Dallas ranked higher than any other city in Texas (No. 8), with Houston and Austin right behind, as the 9th and 11th best American cities this year.

Previously, San Antonio was dubbed the 41st best American city in 2025 and ranked 32nd in the 2024 report.

Rather than profiling each individual city like in past reports, the 2026 edition focuses on regional and state prosperity. Texas' economic dominance is second only to Florida's, and the state's growth is solidified by the Dallas-Houston-Austin "triangle," where each metro has its own distinct economic identity, but when combined "form one of the most formidable regional economies in the world."

"In our 2026 survey, Dallas ranks third nationally as the place Americans believe offers the best job opportunities, Austin fifth, and Houston seventh," the report's author wrote. "That concentration of perceived economic opportunity in a single state is unmatched, and the GDP data confirms it isn’t just perception."

After being named one of the best places to start a business or a career earlier in 2026, San Antonio has continued to punch above its weight with its success in tourism, education, and housing growth.
