7 San Antonio-area H-E-Bs ring up grab-and-go upgrades

H-E-B is expanding its Meal Simple assortment at several San Antonio area stores.
Seven San Antonio-area H-E-Bs are getting glow-ups to make the dinner crunch easier. In June, the hometown grocer filed state regulatory project details for the locations as part of its ongoing Fresh Initiative.
According to an H-E-B rep, the renovations “involve adding equipment to support expanded hot foods [and] Meal Simple assortment.”
The list of stores includes:
- 7330 N. Loop 1604
- 999 E. Basse Rd.
- 9238 N. Loop 1604 W.
- 8503 NW Military Hwy
- 24165 W IH 10 (Leon Springs)
- 300 Main St. N. (Kerrville)
- 651 S. Walnut Ave. (New Braunfels)
Having a broader selection of grab-and-go meals might make a big dent in shoppers’ weeknight meal planning. Still, the remodels are modest in scope, ranging from 181 to 550 square feet.
According to timelines filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, H-E-B expects all of the projects to wrap up between September and October. Although construction schedules are subject to change, the grocery chain usually completes projects on time.
The renovations are part of a broader push, with H-E-B making big moves behind the scenes. In mid-May, the grocer announced a $700 million investment in its supply chain operations that will involve “construction of a state-of-the-art bakery, refrigerated warehouse, transportation building, and additional facilities as well as an expansion of its existing manufacturing plan.”
The company is currently eyeing its Foster Road campus on the East Side for the facilities. If plans move forward, the investment will bring 720 jobs to the Alamo City by 2028 and more than 1,200 over the upcoming decade.
