Popular San Antonio restaurateur takes over jewel box Southtown space
Stout's Jewel is opening in the fall.
A popular restaurant near downtown San Antonio’s Tobin Center is setting the stage for a new Southtown project. Stouts Signature is opening a sibling concept, Stout's Jewel, at 1102 S. Alamo St in King William in the fall.
The project will be located in the former home of coffee shop and lounge, The Jewel. The building, originally built in the 1850s and expanded in the 1920s, is a departure from founder Jason Stout’s upscale concepts, which have favored more contemporary digs.
Although the restaurateur has announced he is taking over the site, he has not yet spilled many details. The website promises that locals can get a sneak peek at Southtown events like First Friday and the upcoming King William Fair on April 25.
Still, one can make a few guesses on the menu based on Stout’s downtown restaurant and Stout’s at the Shore in Port Aransas. Both have an eclectic menu that features pastas, seafood, and steaks.
And, of course, Stout also founded popular pizzeria chain Stout’s Pizza Co., whose pies blend in the menu downtown. Still, the restaurant’s website promises a “whole new experience.” One thing is for sure: the place will have a full bar, according to a recent Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission filing. The logo even features an espresso martini.
A request for more information was not immediately returned. We will update this article if the restaurant gets back to us with more exact menu and timeline information.
