BRUNCH BUMMER
Boozy San Antonio brunch favorite Mash'd to close after 10 years

Mash'd is closing its San Antonio restaurant after a decade.
A Rim restaurant known for moonshine, buzzy brunches, and inventive pub grub is serving one last round. San Antonio favorite Mash’d will close October 29 after a decade at 17623 La Cantera Pkwy. #107.
The eatery, once a part of a Dallas-area mini-chain, called it quits with a call for fans to celebrate one last blowout brunch. Mash’d did not provide a reason for the closure, and a request for further information was not returned by publication time.
“We regret to inform you that after 10 years, Mash’d will be closing its doors at the Rim while we explore relocation options in San Antonio,” wrote the owners in a social media post.
David Kazarian and Jay Clark, founders of Mediterranean-Italian chain TruFire, and entrepreneur Robert Wechsler, founded the concept in 2013, opening a Frisco outpost. A Fort Worth location followed in 2014, before the chain expanded to San Antonio in 2015.
Mash’d is known for its slightly gonzo menu, using fancy ingredients and bold flavors in comfort classics like queso, tacos, and burgers. Some of the signature dishes included fried pepperoni with hot honey, a spinach and corn dip, and “$50,000” pizzas made with organic artisan flour.
“Hillbilly mixology” was the original focus of the bar, which focused on moonshine-based mojitos, sangria, and corn whiskey flights. In later years, Mash’d largely ditched white lightning in favor of more approachable vodka, rum, and tequila drinks.
Whatever the bartenders mixed up, brunch was always its most popular service. The place goes hog wild with decadent dishes such as a French toast sandwich stuffed with fried chicken and American cheese or an eggs Benedict topped with a slab of meatloaf.
The San Antonio Mash’d is the last operating branch of the chain. The Frisco restaurant shuttered in summer 2024, followed by the Fort Worth outpost in February.
