SUDDEN SHUTTERS
Garage bar slams brakes at downtown San Antonio food hall

Garaje Cantina is now closed.
Breezy Make Ready Market bar Garaje Cantina has shut its doors after less than two years in business. On May 7, the small operation announced its closure with a simple graphic that read, "¡Hasta luego!"
"It's been a pleasure to serve you, San Anto, and we will be forever grateful for the warmth and support the River North neighborhood showed us," the business wrote in a social media post. "Garaje Cantina is officially closed. ¡Ándale, Garaje!"
Chef Zach Garza and bartender Clayton Baines opened the kiosk bar in November 2023 as one of the founding concepts of the River North food hall. The bar served its various culinary neighbors with a curated selection of beer, wine, and house cocktails.
It's unclear why the owners decided to shutter the concept. Garaje was the only Make Ready concept that served alcohol. So far, the downtown food hall has not announced any replacements. Visitors can still grab a drink at the adjacent Idle Beer Hall & Brewery.
Garaje is not the only Make Ready tenant that bowed out this year. In February, founding concept Pescado Bravo threw in the towel, hinting at a possible return. A May 8 site visit confirmed that ice cream shop Casa Morgana Gelatos has also vacated the space. Make Ready is currently using the stall for pop-ups like a Mother's Day event on May 10 featuring Baked by Grecia Ramos.
In April, Alamo Ranch favorite Bowls N Go moved in with a lunch-friendly menu of falafel wraps and customizable curry bowls. The newest addition joins Buje Bev. Co, Eet-Up, Four Brothers, and Thai Bird. A curated gift shop, The Fair Goods, also operates inside the space.
