Singhs Vietnamese abruptly closes all San Antonio locations

After more than a decade, what was once one of San Antonio’s buzziest restaurants is no more. Singhs Vietnamese has closed its remaining locations at 114 UTSA Boulevard and 2803 N. St. Mary's St.

Earlier in the month, the restaurant took to social media to say the locations would be closed between August 3-5. After neither outpost reopened, commenters soon began speculating that Singhs was gone for good. Site visits confirmed no signs of life at either location.

Founders Eric Treviño and Louis Singh first opened Singhs as a North Side food truck before taking the leap to a St. Mary’s Strip brick-and-mortar in 2018. Since then, it has become one of Alamo City’s most popular restaurants for bún, rice bowls, bánh mì, and Winghs — its signature fried chicken wings tossed in Thai chili butter with sesame seeds, sliced jalapeño, lime, and cilantro.

Following the debut, it suffered a variety of business challenges, first COVID-19 lockdowns, then ongoing road construction disruptions on the St. Mary’s Strip. In 2021, two cars crashed into its building within six months.

In recent years, however, Singhs has been on a growth trajectory. In May 2025, it returned to its original North Side stomping ground to open Singhs Cantina, a more bar-forward version of the main business. The cold-pressed juice company Glowers replaced the business earlier in 2026. In January, Singhs took over the former home of Noodle Tree near UTSA.

Although Singhs has not made a formal statement on any of its channels, Treviño did confirm to MySA that the move was permanent. The restaurant did not answer emails or direct messages on social media by deadline, and Treviño has not yet returned a texted request for more information.

Lockout notice clouds future for popular San Antonio chicken joint

Gold Feather is facing an uncertain future after being locked out of its North Side home.

In San Antonio, even selling the right product is no safeguard against business troubles. Despite selling a popular lineup of chicken sandwiches, tenders, and wings, Gold Feather Birds and Beers (834 NW Loop 410) is facing an uncertain future after being locked out for alleged unpaid rent.

An August 8 notice from DPEG North Park, LP, addressed to co-owner Sean Bemis, states that the restaurant is behind more than $27,000 in rent at the Park North shopping center. Gold Feather did not return a request for comment by publication time.

Miguel Mayagoitia and business partners Bemis and Moises Valdez opened Gold Feather in August 2020 with initial hopes of growing the restaurant into a multi-unit chain. Mayagoitia knew the fast-casual market well, working for years as a district manager for Wing Daddy’s.

Although the restaurant’s base menu was similar to dozens of its competitors, Gold Feather was more chef-y than Sysco. The fries were initially fried in duck fat; rubs included piri piri; it initially served unexpected appetizers like fried green tomatoes and cauliflower nuggets.

The restaurant also gave customers a reason to linger, selling craft beer by the glass or in growlers, plus a small selection of wine- and beer-based cocktails.

Gold Feather’s lockout comes at a particularly volatile time for the San Antonio hospitality industry. In a new report, market research platform RestaurantData found that San Antonio had the fourth-most restaurant closures in the U.S. between January and June.

Although chicken restaurants are the fastest-growing segment of the American fast-food industry, counter service joints are generally more risky than other types. In the first half of 2026, quick-service and fast-casual restaurants made up more than half of all closures, according to the RestaurantData study.
