Other news and notes
Two Bros. BBQ Market chef Jason Dady is returning to the small screen via a new barbecue competition series on Food Network. Three teams, captained by Bobby Flay, Maneet Chauhan (Chopped), and Antonia Lofaso (Top Chef), will battle it out for live-fire glory in BBQ Brawl to be named the “Master of Q.” The series, filmed at Austin’s Star Hill Ranch, premieres June 1 at 8 pm Central Time.
A bubbly new event is coming to Boiler House at the Pearl. The Mimosa Fest pop-up on May 18 will feature a mimosa bar, a photo booth, and vendors like VEITA Jewelry and Jessica’s Trucker Hat Bar. The $40 ticket gets guests bottomless mimosas, brunch appetizers, and a souvenir cup. Attendees can also design their own clear bag for an additional cost. Passes can be purchased online.
Lauded chef Steve McHugh is launching a new chef’s table at Cured. The $150-plus five-course prix fixe will showcase dishes that have never appeared on the restaurant’s menu: Akaushi prime Texas beef and rabbit served two ways. The menu is available Thursday through Saturday for a maximum of four guests, and the restaurant asks guests to book reservations 48 hours in advance.
Austin-based Amy’s Ice Cream is partnering with a Texas whiskey brand to launch a new summer treat. Beginning May 3, Garrison Brothers’ Balmorhea Bourbon ice cream will be available at all locations, including San Antonio. The new flavor combines a sweet cream base and Garrison Brothers bourbon with Heath Bar bits and candied pecans for a caramelized finish.
The Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille location at 15900 La Cantera Pkwy #22200 is turning back the clock on May 2. During Flashback Friday, the first 100 guests (ages 21 and up) can order the chain’s Pork Chop Friday Lunch special for just 79 cents, a nod to when the restaurant was founded. The plate normally costs $19 and includes a smaller portion of the restaurant’s seven-finger-high pork chop, whipped potatoes, applesauce, and freshly baked bread.
