Hawaiian burgers and Southtown musical chairs flip San Antonio food news

Unko Maui's teases a double stacked burger.
What's old is new in the San Antonio food scene as a mysterious dance club and a Hawaiian burger joint take over vintage buildings. Elsewhere in the city, a Grayson Street hot spot is recovering after an early morning blaze.
Openings
Some notable San Antonio buildings will soon breathe new life courtesy of upcoming hospitality projects. The owner of Maui's on Main is taking over the former home of Deco Pizzeria at 1815 Fredericksburg Rd. to open a new burger joint, Unko Maui's. The pizza joint quietly shuttered in early 2024, vacating the location it operated out of since 2011. Unko Maui's says in a slightly buried Instagram comment that the grand opening will be March 15.
Meanwhile, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings indicate a historic downtown property may soon become a new bar and dance club. In April 2024, downtown developer Weston Urban, under the entity Palace Peppers LP, snagged a property at 310 W. Commerce St. According to the listing, renovations kick off in May, though there's no word on who is behind the project.
