National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize honorees are among the renowned authors who will be coming to town in April to be part of the 13th annual San Antonio Book Festival. The author lineup has been announced for the festival's 13th year.

The book festival, scheduled to take place at the Central Library and University of Texas at San Antonio Southwest Campus, will feature more than 100 notable authors in presentations, panel discussions, book sales, and signings, alongside activities for children and teenagers, and food trucks. Admission is free.

According to event organizers, the San Antonio Book Festival connects attendees with emerging literary talents and with their favorite established authors.

“The book festival lineup is guaranteed to entertain and enlighten,” festival literary director Anna Dobben said in a statement. “SABF will have our first romantasy panel — an incredibly popular genre that mixes fantasy and romance. But there are all sorts of books to fall in love with at the book festival, from picture books to thrillers and horror to nonfiction focusing on history, climate change, and our cultural landscape.”

Some of the more notable authors slated to appear include:

  • Martín Espada, a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship recipient and a National Book Award winner whose latest poetry collection, Jailbreak of Sparrows, displays the ways the ordinary becomes extraordinary.
  • Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award finalist Laila Lalami will discuss her new novel, The Dream Hotel, a near-future adventure about a fallible algorithm that uses people’s dreams to decide whether a person will become a criminal.
  • Podcast host Kelsey McKinney will present her New York Times-bestselling book, You Didn't Hear This From Me: (Mostly) True Notes on Gossip, which explains the differences between benign rumors and total lies to demonstrate the vital role that gossip plays in human connection.
  • Bestselling author and NPR host Linda Holmes will talk about her latest novel, Back After This, which follows a podcast producer who agrees to host a series about modern dating that risks her chance at finding real love.

The book festival will also have appearances by numerous authors from around San Antonio and Texas:

There will be presentations with children’s and young adult authors, such as:

  • Erin Entrada Kelly and Kwame Mbalia, who teamed up to craft a new book about teen love, On Again, Awkward Again
  • Children’s author Matt de la Peña, the first Latino Newbery Medal winner, whose picture book, Home, is an ode to the places where one can feel safe, loved, and true to themselves
  • Author and illustrator Breanna Carzoo with The Squish
  • National Book Award finalist Huda Fahmy of the graphic novel, Huda F Wants to Know?, about a big family change that throws one teen’s life out of control;
  • Adrianna Cuevas, whose book What Fell From the Sky, speaks to middle schoolers about a gentle extraterrestrial escaping the U.S. military
  • Greg Foley, whose graphic novel for older kids and preteens, Dex Dingo: World’s Best Greatest Ever Inventor, follows a very ambitious tinkerer.

According to a press release, young families attending the San Antonio Book Festival can also enjoy an illustrator sketch contest, a free performance by the Magik Theatre, interactive activities by local nonprofits, and free snacks.
