San Antonio declared the world's No. 2 travel destination for 2016
You don't have to travel far to find yourself in one of the world's top travel destinations. In addition to being named a travel hot spot by Travel + Leisure, San Antonio ranks No. 2 in the world on Budget Travel's"Where to Go" list for 2016.
The annual series touts destinations that have everything the savvy traveler needs, especially value. San Antonio comes out on top thanks to its vibrant food scene and culture.
Why visit the Alamo City in 2016? The travel publication points to San Antonio's ongoing "culinary boom," name-dropping such hot spots as Southerleigh and Hotel Emma's dining gems. Ray's Drive-Inn gets a nod for its legendary puffy taco, while Paramour shines for post-dinner rooftop drinks.
Because vacation isn't all about food, Budget Travel explores the rich history of San Antonio. In addition to the missions, there are two massive celebrations worth the trek: the 180th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo and the 125th anniversary of Fiesta.
The only destination to top Alamo City on the list is Iceland. Following San Antonio are Cuba (No. 3), Los Angeles (No. 4), and Greece (No. 5).
