OPENING ALERT
Beloved New Braunfels burger truck makes leap to brick-and-mortar
UBP Burgers' is now open in New Braunfels.
Cult-favorite food truck UBP Burgers has graduated to a brick-and-mortar. The New Braunfels favorite, known for its thick, juicy patties, has opened a fast-casual restaurant and drive-thru at 588 S Elliot Knox Blvd.
Although the official address is off I-35, the restaurant is urging people to pull up to the second entrance. In several social media posts, UBP says both the drive-thru and parking lot are more easily accessible on the Nacogdoches Street side.
The food truck's story reaches back to 2019 when owner John Evans designed and patented the Ultimate Burger Press. The plastic form has a divot in the center that presses ground meat into a doughnut-like shape that cradles toppings like cheese, cooks evenly, and achieves the caramelization of a smash burger with a much thicker patty.
In 2023, Evans decided to test the invention in the real world by opening a food truck as a proof of concept. Since then, the burger joint has hooked a loyal Hill Country following that regularly votes it a top pick in the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung's annual "Best of New Braunfels" readers poll.
Now open, the restaurant serves Evans’ chicken sandwiches and strips, and sides like beer-battered onion rings, queso-bacon loaded tots, and seasoned crinkle fries. But the burgers, made with quarter-, third-, and half-pound patties, are still the main attraction.
When not cruising through the drive-thru, fans can order their own Ultimate Burger Press to make their own patties at home. The website has some kooky creations that aren’t on the UBP menu, including mac ‘n’ cheese and pizza burgers.
