New outdoor eatery opens at San Antonio's iconic Tower of the Americas

A new restaurant is open at the Tower of the Americas while it renovates Chart House.
San Antonio’s
Tower of the Americas is taking a new restaurant concept for a spin while it renovates its revolving Chart House anchor. A new al fresco dining experience, Tower Grove Restaurant and Bar, is now open at the base of the iconic building at 739 E César E. Chávez Blvd.
For now, guests will have to forgo panoramic views of the city. But the new 240-seat restaurant does offer a park-like setting with fountains, bistro lights, and greenery — a plus for those that suffer a crippling fear of heights. During the summer months, patio umbrellas and fans will combat the heat.

Fans of Chart House will still have access to their favorite menu items. While the Tower Grove menu isn’t quite as extensive as its lofty counterpart, many of the latter’s signature dishes will make their way downstairs.
Among the offerings are lump crab cake, slow-roasted prime rib, and bronzed salmon and shrimp. More casual diners can sup on a diner-style smashed burger or fish tacos, or jump straight into a chocolate ripple mudpie. The grounded new concept will also have a full-service bar with wine and cocktails.
Although the main dining room of Chart House won’t be open to the public, locals and tourists can still check out the view from
Bar 601. Many of the same dishes will be available in the lounge.
“We’re excited to offer guests two unique alternatives while the Chart House dining room is temporarily closed for renovations,” said Director of Operations Carlton Quick via a release. “Tower Grove celebrates the best of open-air dining in one of San Antonio’s most iconic settings.”
Tower Grove is open for dinner Sunday-Thursday, 5 pm-9 pm, and Friday-Saturday, 5 pm-10 pm. Restaurant officials have not released details on when renovations on Chart House will be complete.
