COMING ATTRACTIONS
Mexican carne asada legend picks San Antonio for first U.S. taquería

Tacos on the Street is Puerto Vallarta's undisputed champ of carne asada.
San Antonio's ever-growing Mexican culinary scene is about to welcome a flavorful new addition straight from the streets of Puerto Vallarta. Acclaimed taquería Tacos On The Street is making its U.S. debut this August at 22026 US Highway 281 N #101 in Stone Oak.
The fast-casual restaurant started as a humble taco stand in 1993, quickly becoming one of the Mexican coastal city's most popular dining destinations. Word of mouth helped it secure an international reputation, amplified by review sites like The Infatuation.
Tacos on the Street made its name with a singular obsession, carne asada. Steak is thinly shaved, cooked over scorching charcoal, then glazed to bring out richly caramelized flavors and crispy edges. The meat is piled high into quesadillas, tostadas, and tacos.
Although the beef is the showstopper, the restaurant has become just as celebrated for its hand-pressed tortillas. Tacos on the Street makes its masa from nixtamalized corn, a painstaking process of soaking dried corn in an alkaline solution to enhance nutrition and preserve flavor.

A trio of house-made salsas — creamy avocado verde, zesty tomato cruda, and fire-roasted chile de árbol — brings zip to the plate. The menu also features margaritas and jamaica mezcalitas, a smokier cousin to San Antonio's favorite cocktail. A pair of beloved brands will give the drinks some oomph: Mexican soft drink brand Jarritos and local seasoning company Twang.
The taquería kept the dessert menu simple, but that doesn't make it any less impactful. The Tacos on the Street opening will mark the River City debut of cult New York City creamery Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. Although prepackaged pints are widely available at local grocery stores, this is the first time the fresh scoops will be served in San Antonio.
The Alamo City Tacos on the Street is not just a one-time opening. The Stone Oak location will serve as the brand's U.S. headquarters, setting the stage for its future growth across the country.
"San Antonio felt like the natural place to begin our growth in the U.S.," said San Antonio-based director of marketing Natalia Bustamante in a release. "It is a city that lives and breathes flavor, family, and culture — and that is exactly what defines us. We are all in on San Antonio. This opening is not just a launch. It is the beginning of a much bigger journey with this city at the heart of it all."

To make sure the vibe matches the flavors, Tacos On The Street brought in Joel Mozersky. The high-end interior designer is not exactly known for the fast-casual space. His exacting eye for color and detail can be found at some of San Antonio's toniest spaces, including Pullman Market, Brasserie Mon Chou Chou, Southerleigh, and the late Allora.
The space will feature handcrafted ceramic pieces from Guadalajara's renowned Cerámica Suro, along with a custom mural by Irapuato artist Don Mos. Under the creative direction of Guillermo Flores Pacheco of Orbeh Studio in Guadalajara, the mural blends contemporary style with Mexican symbolism in a dynamic tribute to both Puerto Vallarta and San Antonio.
"The design of the mural is inspired by the tropical and vibrant energy of Puerto Vallarta, the place where this project originated," Flores shared in a statement. "I wanted to capture the essence of the Mexican Pacific through iconic botanical forms — palm trees, jamaica flowers inspired by our mezcalita, and organic elements that evoke the warmth, freshness, and vitality of the coastal landscape."
The first U.S. location of Tacos On The Street will be open daily, but the official opening date and hours of operation will be announced at a later date. The restaurant group will announce details of its U.S. expansion soon.
