OPENING ALERT
Buzzy wine-on-tap restaurant uncorks first San Antonio location
Pass the burrata, please.
A new bar and restaurant offering serious pours and wine country-inspired cuisine is raising its glass to San Antonio. Sixty Vines, a Dallas-based concept from the team behind Ida Claire and Whiskey Cake, will open its first Alamo City restaurant at 15900 La Cantera Pkwy on August 10.
The small chain steers in a similar lane to restaurants like Postino and Seasons 52, focusing on its wine selection. Its hook is that each of its 60 selections is on tap, a practice the company says saves more than 450,000 bottles each year from winding up in landfills. Each keg holds the equivalent of 26 bottles and can be reused about 1,500 times.
Pours are served in various sizes, from a 2.5-ounce taster to a 750-milliliter carafe, to encourage guests to expand their palate and take risks. The international selections include choices from Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines list alongside trendier low-intervention wines. And, yes, guests can still get a bottle for those long-conversation nights.

The wine focus carries to the provisions, based on classic dishes from the world's great grape-growing regions. The large list of shareable nibbles includes cured meats, cheeses, bacon-wrapped dates, fried chicken topped with caviar, and grilled golden beets.
Heartier appetites can opt for pizza, pasta, sandwiches, or a handful of mains. Entrees like rainbow trout, Atlantic salmon, and pan-roasted chicken lean lighter, but there is room for decadence in dishes like a wood-grilled filet mignon with bacon-dijon vinaigrette and a burger smothered in Cabernet.
Unfussy desserts like Basque cheesecake or a devil's food affogato round off the meal. Sixty Vines locations also have full bars with botanical cocktails and serve mocktails and nonalcoholic wines for those choosing not to imbibe.

The new location features a dining room, flexible private dining and greenhouse spaces, and a patio with full bar service. Brunch will be available on Saturdays and Sundays, with lunch and dinner served throughout the week. General Manager Abner Sandoval and Executive Chef Carla Verduzco will lead the local team.
“San Antonio is one of the best food cities in Texas, and people here have a real appreciation for gathering around the table,” said Jeff Carcara, CEO of Sixty Vines, via a release. We can’t wait to introduce the community to our seasonal menu and 60 wines on tap. It’s all designed to make discovering wine fun and approachable. We call it pinkies down, and we think San Antonio is going to love the experience.”
