Texas’ top pitmasters fire up San Antonio for one-night barbecue fest

Pullman Market's Smoke & Fire festival debuts in October.
If you want to taste Texas’ best barbecue joints, you can fill up the tank for a road trip — or spring for a rideshare to San Antonio’s Pullman Market. The swanky Pearl grocer is hosting its inaugural Smoke & Fire barbecue fest on October 18, bringing in some of the state’s most acclaimed pitmasters, plus an out-of-state guest that has been lauded by everyone from Bon Appétit to Southern Living.
The lineup includes five restaurants with Michelin recognition and six of the barbecue joints on Texas Monthly’s top 50 list. The styles range from Curry Boys BBQ’s fusion curry to KG BBQ’s Egyptian-inspired fare to King BBQ’s new-school take on Chinese-American classics. The full lineup includes:
- 2M Smokehouse — Esaul Ramos
- Burnt Bean Company — Ernest Servantes
- Curry Boys BBQ — Sean Wen, Andrew Ho, Andrew Samia
- InterStellar BBQ (Austin) — John Bates
- KG BBQ (Austin) — Kareem El-Ghayesh
- King BBQ (Charleston, South Carolina) — Shuai Wang
- Mezquite — Ian Corral and Max Muñoz
- Pinkerton’s Barbecue — Grant Pinkerton
- Reese Bros BBQ — Elliott and Nick Reese
- Two Bros BBQ Market — Jason Dady and Laura Loomis
During the event, attendees will sample signature bites from each pitmaster, sip beverages, and enjoy live music and entertainment. Live fire demos will teach guests some essential grill skills.
“Pullman Market’s Smoke & Fire isn’t just a food festival - it’s a celebration of craft, flavor, and community,” said Kevin Fink, Pullman Market partner, in a release. “We’re excited to launch an annual tradition that brings the community together for an unforgettable evening featuring ten of the country’s most talented pitmasters and their signature barbecue creations.”
All-inclusive tickets for Smoke & Fire are $65 for general admission and $125 for VIP, with free GA entry for children 12 and under. The mini-festival at 221 Newell Ave takes place from 5-8 pm on Saturday, October 18.
