TAKING A SHINE
San Antonio's Pearl glows up with 4 new restaurants and sprawling artisan market
Just when San Antonians thought Pearl had hit a peak with its culinary offerings, a sprawling new project is upping the ante: Pullman Market, a 40,000-square-foot market featuring a grocer, casual to-go concepts, and four full-service restaurants, is set to open in 2024.
Austin's lauded Emmer & Rye Hospitality Group announced the ambitious project in a release December 14.
The development at 221 Newell Ave. has been whispered about since 2021, when San Antonio's Historic and Design Review Commission approved rehabilitating the former Samuel Glass Co. building. Though plans then showed something similar to Pullman Market, Pearl officials have thus far stayed mum on the details.

According to the release, Pullman Market's quartet of full-service eateries, each offering distinctive experiences, will be the complex's showpiece:
- Fife & Farro will serve housemade pizza and pasta in a family-friendly environment.
- Isidore will provide an upscale alternative with a regularly rotating menu.
- Mezquite, a mezcalería and restaurant, will zero in on Sonoran Mexican cuisine.
- Lastly, pastry chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph will helm Nicosi, an intimate 18-seat dessert bar with no phones allowed.

If that isn't enough, the market will also offer a grocery specializing in Texas goods and produce. Grab-and-go concepts selling burgers, ice cream, tacos, sandwiches, ceviche, and coffee will complete the picture.
"Pullman Market is a place to celebrate all things food," says Emmer & Rye Hospitality partner Kevin Fink in the release. "You can grab a quick bite or stay awhile at one of our restaurants. You can discover high-quality ingredients for dinner or grab something premade to make mealtime easy."
Pullman Market will follow hot on the heels of another new addition to the Pearl district — Stable Hall, whose first acts will perform in January 2024.
Though the opening date is still to be announced, Pullman Market is expected to open sometime in spring 2024.
