New seafood fusion restaurant hooks spot in darling SATX development
The Creamery, the ambitious mixed-use development near Pearl, soon will welcome the second of five promised concepts: Hook Land & Sea is set to debut on Monday, January 15.
Located at 875 E. Ashby Place, Bldg. 2 & 3, Hook Land & Sea comes from Only One Hospitality, the owners of 1902 Nightclub and fellow Creamery tenant Crème Coffee & Social. As the name implies, the menu features various seafood dishes alongside a few meatier options for landlubbers.
Although the eatery bills itself as fusion, there is little cross-cultural pollination within the dishes themselves. Instead, the kitchen team mines international culinary influences for various individual dishes.
The chief inspiration is Latin America, which is evident in appetizers like shrimp aguachile and mains like a carnitas bowl served with rice and black beans. East Asian flavors are represented in a few specialties like a sriracha shrimp roll, chicken banh mi, and chicken fried rice.
The “tortilla’d” section — devoted to tacos and tostadas — does propose some ingredient blending, adding gochujang to a birria broth, and topping a salmon tostada with cured egg yolk and tobiko.
The drink menu follows the same cues with intriguing cocktails like a cilantro pineapple margarita, the vodka-based Lychee On The Rocks, and a prickly pear Collins made with rose water. Guests can also opt for a frozen drink, craft beer, or a glass of wine from Hook’s small but considered list.
Eschewing a grand opening soiree, Hook is extending its celebrations to a full week starting on January 15. Each day will highlight different aspects of the operations, including:
- Monday, January 15: Complimentary dip trio with a food purchase (limit one per table)
- Tuesday, January 16: All-day happy hour
- Wednesday, January 17: $6 Hook burger
- Thursday, January 18: Free T-shirt to the first 100 guests who tag Hook in a story or post on Facebook or Instagram
- Friday, January 19: Complimentary dip trio with a food purchase (limit one per table)
- Saturday, January 20: All-day happy hour
Following launch week, Hook Land & Sea will be open Sunday-Thursday from 11am-9pm and Friday-Saturday from 11am-10pm. Three additional concepts are expected to join the restaurant in 2024, including underground lounge Easy Baby, craft cocktail bar Amelia, and rooftop hangout Lunatique.
