COMING ATTRACTIONS
Bullish San Antonio restaurant group charges into new Champagne bar

Gusto Group's latest bar, Sea Spice, will specialize in bubbles and cold seafood.
San Antonio hospitality dynamo Gusto Group is adding another restaurant and bar to its rapidly growing empire. State records show the company will soon begin construction on Sea Spice, a new concept coming to Jefferson Bank’s headquarters at 1900 Broadway.
The group has not officially announced the concept, but CEO Gerardo de Anda teased it during an April interview with the San Antonio Current. Although he didn’t flesh out the idea, he described it as a Champagne bar with “fresh cocktails” and cold seafood. Gusto did not return a request for further information by deadline.
Despite the similar name, it is not to be confused with Florida’s Seaspice Brasserie and Lounge, a frequent backdrop to Real Housewives of Miami kerfuffles.
According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, the 2,999-square-foot space is expected to be completed in early December. It will be the fourth restaurant to debut in the 1900 Broadway building, currently the home of upscale sushi spot Nineteen Hyaku and swanky sandwich shop The Newstand.
Dallas-based Bellagreen had a brief run at the property but is currently taking a break from its first San Antonio location. The building has been undergoing extensive facade repairs due to a masonry defect for almost a year. The healthy eatery promises to return once the scaffolding comes down.
In less than a decade, Gusto has grown from a single location of Toro Kitchen + Bar to one of Alamo City’s largest restaurant groups. Today, the company runs three locations of Toro, Cuisine Cocina Mexicana, and several bars, including its latest opening, Books: A Whiskey Society.
