END OF AN ERA
Iconic San Antonio seafood restaurant sails away after 43 years

Dry Dock Oyster Bar is being replaced by an Odessa restaurant.
After 43 years, one of San Antonio's most well-recognized restaurants is leaving the harbor. Dry Dock Oyster Bar, known for its iconic boat-shaped building at 8522 Fredericksburg Rd., will close on May 13.
"We extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and patronage over the years," said the restaurant via a website statement. "Your loyalty has made this journey incredibly rewarding, and we are truly humbled by your friendship and kindness."
Geu Kim, the longstanding owner of Dry Dock, sold the business to an Odessa restaurateur to retire. The spot will evolve into a new concept, Crab City, in the upcoming weeks.
Dry Dock opened in 1982 and has since served generations of Alamo City locals. In addition to serving its signature oysters, the restaurant dished out various affordable seafood plates like stuffed crab, shrimp scampi, and fried catfish.
In February 2024, the unique eatery caused a stir by temporarily closing due to unpaid rent. Eventually, it was able to catch up and set sail again.
A representative at Odessa's Crab City says that some of Dry Dock's menu items will remain on the menu, but the rest will change. Although the eatery serves seafood dishes like Cajun boils, catfish platters, and po'boys, it also incorporates pub grub like wings and Asian elements like gyoza and fried rice.
The company has yet to release details on when Crab City will debut in San Antonio.
