San Antonio-based H-E-B once again named America's top place to work

There are hundreds of reasons why San Antonio-based H-E-B rules the market, and it's not just customer satisfaction. For the third year in a row, the homegrown grocer has been named the top-rated retail workplace in America by Indeed.
H-E-B bested huge companies like Costco Wholesale, Nike, and Best Buy to top the list. The report cites a variety of reasons for the supermarket's high ranking, and employee reviews consistently praise H-E-B’s commitment to supporting individual growth and ensuring a potential for advancement. The chain also provides workers with a chance to explore different departments within the company.
It now boasts more than 350 locations across Texas and Mexico, but employees say that the company doesn't feel like a corporate machine. A common refrain is that H-E-B has a tight-knit, family-friendly culture.
That sense of family is reflected in H-E-B’s community involvement. Each year, the supermarket gives out $700,000 in cash prizes to teachers, principals, and school districts as part of its Excellence in Education Awards. The company also provides disaster relief during crises like Hurricane Harvey.
H-E-B was one of only two Texas-based employers to make Indeed’s top 25 list. Austin-based Whole Foods Market nabbed the No. 19 spot.
