A member of a noted San Antonio band is opening up a new hub for live music. Phanie Diaz of the recently reunited trio Girl in a Coma and her business partner Jamie Hoppe will have a grand opening for the Rah! Rah! Room on Decemeber 20 and 21.

Rah! Rah! Room is located at 6322 San Pedro Ave., across the street from the Bang Bang Bar, which Diaz and Hoppe opened in 2016. The building has been home to numerous clubs over the years such as Rec Room, Cielo, and Jack Rabbit.

The 5,500-square-foot venue will host local and national music acts, and will be available for various public and private events.

Diaz said while the Bang Bang Bar has more of a dive bar and living room atmosphere, Rah! Rah! Room will look and feel different. It will even have an outside stage.

“With Rah! Rah! Room it feels [like] more of a venue with how big the space is,” Diaz said.

Rah! Rah! Room’s social media describe the club as “San Antonio's newest live music and event venue, proudly female-led and here to celebrate creativity and community.”

Diaz and Hoppe have been live music advocates, and have enjoyed supporting the local music scene since they went to high school together. Diaz added there is a chance to secure vacant property across from Rah! Rah! Room.

“Being a musician myself, it’s nice to be able to have options of places to play,” Diaz said. “The more, the better, in my opinion. Maybe artists won’t skip San Antonio as much.”

Grand opening activities for Rah! Rah! Room will kick off December 20 with Def Leppard tribute band High N Dry and the New Eighties, a local band that covers classic 1980s and ’90s songs.

Girl in a Coma, currently on tour and making new music for the first time in nearly 20 years, will headline a December 21 show at Rah! Rah! Room. Corpus Christi band Indio will also perform at that show.

Diaz is excited about what the Rah! Rah! Room will bring to San Antonio. “Please come out, everyone," she says, "let’s give this city a new place to play.”
