New oyster bar dives into the Pearl and more San Antonio food news
Editor's note: We get it. It can be difficult to keep up with the what’s what and who’s who of San Antonio food. But we have you covered with our regular roundup of the freshest local restaurant news.
Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery’s long-awaited oyster bar debuted on September 14. The restaurant within a restaurant expands the eatery’s raw menu of oysters, Gulf shrimp, and crab to include decadent treats like caviar. The metal and glass kiosk, overlooking Pearl Park, also offers a capsule list of six beers, wine, and house punch that can be enjoyed outdoors during the park’s regular live music and cultural programming.
September 14 also marked the debut of a new bar and music venue in Scherz. Located in a renovated 1930s cottage, the aptly named Bar House at 533 Main St. features a rustic setting with reclaimed wood and salvaged decor in the main building and food trucks parked outdoors.
Speaking of the latest and greatest, popular taqueria Chela’s Tacos opened its second location at 3420 N. St. Mary’s St. on September 15. For now, the larger location will serve the same menu of tacos, quesadillas, and breakfast plates as the original, but a full bar will be coming soon.
Rounding out the busy weekend for openings was the September 15 introduction of Roadmap Brewing Co. The brewery and beer garden from entrepreneurs Hannah and Dustin Baker, located at 723 N. Alamo St. in the River North district, is the latest in a mini-boom in San Antonio’s craft beer scene, which includes Issla St. Brewing and Brew Monkey Beer Co.
A different kind of brew will soon be coming to Alamo Ranch. On September 19, residents will wake up to a new location of Summer Moon Coffee Bar. The shop, located at 11831 Culebra Rd. Ste. 106, will be the second Alamo City outpost for the Austin-based roaster and coffeehouse. To celebrate the first day of business, Summer Moon will be giving away free cups of coffee.
Artisan on Alamo has added a new spirit to their lineup. On September 13, the downtown distillery released Bexar Ridge Bourbon, supplementing a lineup that previously only included clear liquors like Spike Vodka, Texas Pride Vodka, and Chupacabra Juice moonshine. The new libation is available straight or in classic cocktails.
