Favorite Pearl restaurant brings biscuits and fried chicken to North San Antonio
The doors haven’t yet opened to its two upcoming concepts at Brooks, but that hasn’t stopped Southerleigh from adding another project to its proverbial docket. On August 6, the Pearl favorite announced it is opening a new location in The Rim.
Southerleigh Bird & Biscuit will be the fourth concept for the newly christened Southerleigh Restaurant Group. According to a release, it will be serving brunch, lunch, dinner, and happy hour at 5822 Worth Pkwy., Ste. 111 by the second quarter of 2020.
Although the restaurant will offer seafood platters, sandwiches, and salads, poultry will be the main focus. Choices include brined rotisserie chicken and turkey, chicken fingers served with house dipping sauces, and Southerleigh’s perpetually popular fried chicken.
“Our fried chicken has always been one of our most loved dishes at our Pearl location,” explains chef and co-owner Jeff Balfour via release, “so when the idea to create a fast-casual concept featuring this fan-favorite began to take shape a few years back, we were inspired by our customers to further develop the recipe while searching for a location that felt like the perfect fit to launch our new brand.”
As with Southerleigh projects, the beverage program will center around the house brews. The Bird & Biscuit bar will also boast an approachable wine list and full cocktail program including some frozen drinks.
Bird & Biscuit is not the only big news for the team. The Brooks restaurant, first announced in December 2017 as a second location of Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewing, now has a new focus — and a new name.
The newly christened Southerleigh Coast & Comfort, as well as the standalone brewery, are still on track to open before the end of 2019. The release teased more details would be forthcoming later in the year.
