THE MEAT OF THE MATTER
Long-awaited upscale steakhouse finally fires up first San Antonio location
For years now, news that Alamo City would get a Redlands Grill steakhouse has been all sizzle and no steak. But local carnivores can finally “meat” their match.
Nashville-based restaurant operation J. Alexander’s Holdings will officially open the new San Antonio location of Redlands Grill Monday, March 29. Located at 17422 Fiesta Texas Dr. in La Cantera Heights, the concept is only the second restaurant the company has opened in San Antonio, with the first, J. Alexander’s, opening in 1997. The company announced in April 2019 it would open Redlands Grill in San Antonio in the first half of 2020, but that plan got delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.
The new 8,350-square-foot restaurant, which seats 279 diners and will employ about 100 full- and part-time workers, will be a boutique-style restaurant featuring a contemporary take on American cuisine, according to Mark A. Parkey, president and CEO of J. Alexander’s Holdings.
“We are pleased to formally open our new Redlands Grill,” Parkey says. “The new restaurant in La Cantera Heights is our second restaurant in San Antonio. We are looking forward to welcoming our guests and to providing an exceptional dining experience with emphasis on the finest in made-from-scratch, quality food.”
Led by executive chef Vincente Garcia, the menu includes a variety of American classics, like prime rib roasted on the bone, steaks, fresh seafood, sandwiches, and entree salads. Open for lunch and dinner service with different menus, Redlands Grill also features a full-service bar with a selection of wines available by the glass and bottle, as well as handcrafted cocktails. It’s all meant to provide guests with an upscale, unique experience.
“All of our steaks will be cut in-house,” Parkey says, “and will be seasoned and grilled in a 1,600-degree Montague broiler. Like our other restaurant groups, Redlands Grill focuses on providing our guests with the highest-quality menu offerings supported by professional service in uniquely designed environments.”
Redlands Grill will be open for dine-in service Sunday through Thursday from 11 am to 9 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 10 pm.
