Valentine’s Day food for thought
2 San Antonio steakhouses get some love among the most romantic restaurants in U.S.
Finding the ideal romantic spot for a Valentine’s Day dinner with your sweetheart can be almost as complicated as the relationship itself.
Fortunately, restaurant reservation platform OpenTable has made the task easier for San Antonio lovebirds. OpenTable has crowned two San Antonio restaurants among the 100 most romantic restaurants in the country.
Based on an analysis of more than 12.4 million reviews posted by verified OpenTable diners in the U.S., Bohanan’s Prime Steaks and Seafood (219 E. Houston St.) and J-Prime Steakhouse (1401 N. Loop 1604 West) earned the “most romantic” label.
Two other Texas eateries made the OpenTable list: Pappas Bros. Steakhouse in Dallas and Truluck’s in The Woodlands.
According to OpenTable, Bohanan’s serves “sublimely tender prime beef grilled over fragrant mesquite wood.” Its menu also features fresh seafood and flambéed tableside desserts. Bohanan’s — a popular destination for celebrations like anniversaries and birthdays — is housed in a historic building just one block from the River Walk, a perfect place for a romantic post-dinner stroll.
“Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Bohanan’s is one of San Antonio’s finest restaurants and an iconic traditional steakhouse,” an OpenTable reviewer wrote in January.
Since the restaurant is closed on Mondays and this Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday, Bohanan’s is promoting a Valentine’s Day take-home dinner for two priced at $175. The preordered dinner features prime tenderloin, dinner rolls, potatoes au gratin, and grilled asparagus.
At J-Prime, menu highlights include prime beef, free-range chicken, and wild-caught seafood.
“The service, quality, and atmosphere are unmatched. J-Prime delivers a dining experience that demands excellent customer service and superior food,” according to OpenTable.
Like Bohanan’s, J-Prime — replete with sleek, modern décor — draws customers observing anniversaries, birthdays, and other special events.
“There are few restaurants I’ve ever been to with the level of service here. Absolutely a dream. Worth the price, and food was excellent. Perfect for a date night or special occasion,” an OpenTable reviewer wrote in January.
This year, J-Prime is serving a four-course prix fixe menu on Valentine’s Day for $125 per person. Among the selections are New York strip steak, grilled salmon, truffle mac and cheese, potatoes au gratin, red velvet cake, and creme brulee.
