San Antonio’s beloved holiday market unwraps new downtown home
Holidays on Houston's annual market is moving to La Villita.
San Antonio's Holidays on Houston Street is outgrowing its name. Starting December 3, the annual downtown tradition is stretching past the downtown thoroughfare and into La Villita.
By popular demand, the Holiday Market Experience will now run two weekends in the historic district, December 4-6 and December 18-20. The signature event draws dozens of artisan vendors selling one-of-a-kind gifts, soundtracked by jingling setlists from live musicians.
The celebration is also spreading into Downtown West. The new Downtown West Chili Classic debuts December 5 at Legacy Park. The tasting event promises 20 competing teams serving bowls of Texas red and more free-spirited creations. Proceeds benefit Hogs for the Cause, supporting families facing pediatric cancer.
Fan favorite activations will return, too, including:
- Taste of Holidays on Houston Street — December 3: A community dinner under the twinkling lights, featuring cocktails from Bar 414, dinner from Jots, and dessert from Paris Baguette
- SATX 5K — December 4: San Antonio’s annual holiday race
- Texas Public Radio's Holiday Night City — December 11: A night of shopping and live music headlined by The Tiarras
- Holiday in the Village Gingerbread Building Competition — December 11-13: St. Philip's College culinary students show off towering gingerbread houses inspired by San Antonio landmarks

Throughout the season, over 393,000 mini-LED lights will illuminate more than 80 Houston Street trees, with each intersection featuring a unique, dazzling display. Larger-than-life ornaments and wreaths will provide even more selfie backdrops as visitors explore local businesses or stop by for a drink during an ongoing cocktail crawl.
The festivities coincide with one of the busiest times for San Antonio’s core. In addition to the SATX 5K, Holidays on Houston Street intersects with the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Alamodome.
But organizers Centro San Antonio and the City of San Antonio have taken some of the guesswork out of navigating the cheery chaos. A free web app, Indavro, will be launched in the weeks ahead of the party — offering an interactive map of La Villita, vendor and entertainment lineups, personalized schedules, and a digital attendant. Revelers can find parking and street closure information online.
“Downtown San Antonio has always been where generations of families come together to make memories, especially during the holidays,” said Trish DeBerry, President and CEO of Centro San Antonio, in a statement. “We've made it a priority to bring those traditions back to the heart of our city.”
