Mysterious new escape room to open at historic San Antonio address
The Mansion Murder theme would be apropos for Escapology's downtown escape room.
Escape room chain Escapology is giving some clues to its next San Antonio move. The playful franchise is renovating downtown's historic Albert Maverick Building at 515 E. Houston St., with work expected to wrap by November.
The new business brings new life to the architectural treasure. The circa 1883 structure was designed by Alfred Giles, the acclaimed architect behind the San Antonio Botanical Garden’s Daniel J. Sullivan Stable and Carriage House and the Lambermont on the East Side. It is considered the oldest remaining commercial building on Houston Street.
According to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filings, the $400,000 finish-out will create game rooms across the ground level and basement space. Each will be fully themed with an assortment of hidden clues, cryptic codes, and diabolical puzzles.

The company hasn’t revealed the escape room lineup for the new location, but surely there’s some opportunity for some Gilded Age intrigue. Escapology’s other locations offer a mix of settings, from beauty company labs to pirates’ galleys, and even licensed games like Scooby-Doo and the Spooky Castle Adventure.
Unlike many of its competitors, Escapology boasts a private experience, meaning no annoying strangers will intrude on your group’s fun. The escape room does accept walk-ins and also offers buyouts for both kids’ and adults’ birthday parties and corporate retreats.
A specific opening date has not been announced, and TDLR records are only an estimate of construction timelines. Escapology did not immediately return a request for more information. In the meantime, local sleuths can visit the Park North location at 602 NW Loop 410.
