UTSA sees huge jump in U.S. News' university rankings for 2025
The University of Texas at San Antonio has landed among the top 15 best universities in the state for 2025, according to U.S. News and World Report's just-released list of the Best Colleges for 2025.
The home of the Roadrunners claimed No. 15 in Texas, and had a massive 49-place leap from the previous year into No. 231 nationally for 2025. The public institution had an undergraduate enrollment of more than 30,000 students in fall 2023.
This year UTSA had the second biggest jump; only one other university, D'Youville University in New York, had higher upward mobility in the rankings. It rose 61 places. UTSA's rise was matched by North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and the ascent of Andrews University in Michigan (47 places) was almost as dramatic.
UTSA costs $10,550 in tuition and fees for in-state students each year, and according to the school's profile, it has an acceptance rate of 88 percent. The public institution has a 79 percent first-year retention rate, and an "actual" graduation rate of 51 percent.
In April, UTSA ranked No. 10 in U.S. News' ranking of the best graduate schools in Texas. The school performed the best in a new ranking for social work programs, coming in at No. 5 in Texas and No. 77 in the U.S.
In a glowing review of the university, one former student praised UTSA's graduate school.
"I earned my doctorate at UTSA and am very pleased with the rigor and relevance of the graduate programs," the reviewer wrote.
"[There are] lots of research opportunities, dedicated and knowledgeable professors, [and] ample financial support."
Just behind UTSA in the statewide comparison is Texas State University in San Marcos, which ranked No. 17 in Texas and No. 273 nationally. The University of the Incarnate Word placed No. 18 statewide and No. 288 nationally.
