H-E-B totes out stylish new edition of coveted Selena shopping bags
This spring, San Antonio’s most stylish shoppers had one thing in common — they were all sporting H-E-B’s reusable bags paying tribute to cumbia queen Selena. Those commemorative totes proved so popular that they sold out almost immediately at stores across the state.
Now, the grocery giant is now bringing them back. In a release, the San Antonio-based chain announced a new limited-edition bag will be available at H-E-B stores across the state beginning at 6 am on December 6. The bags will also be sold at Joe V’s Smart Shop and Mi Tienda stores in Houston.
Retailing for $2, the newly designed bags feature a dark purple handle and images of the superstar in one of her most iconic looks — a mirrored chainmail top layered over a sheer black tee. The front is emblazoned with the word "siempre" on one front and the Grammy winner’s famous signature on the back. The bag's sides sport inspirational quotes.
Anticipating a sell-out, H-E-B has produced more totes this go-round, but the quantities will still be limited. Sales are confined to two per person, and will not be available for purchase from Central Market, HEB.com, or through the store’s curbside pickup and home delivery services. An e-commerce site has been created, however, for those who prefer to snag them up online.
While waiting for December 6, Texas residents 18 and older can enter a Facebook sweepstakes for a chance to win the bag. Five grand prize winners will receive the added bonus of a $500 H-E-B gift card.
As for the original hot pink bag released in late February, those can still be found on online marketplaces like eBay. A current lot featuring the tote with a Newsweek special edition and equally coveted reusable Selena cups from Stripes convenience store is currently selling for $89.
