Vibrant outdoor market popping up weekly in historic St. Paul Square

San Antonians looking to shake up their weekend routine will soon have a new Sunday destination. A weekly open air market combining Instagrammable snacks with thrifty one-of-a-kind finds will be coming to St. Paul Square starting October 20.
The aptly named The Pop Up comes from EgCollaborations, the company behind the SA Wings & Beer Fest and the Grilled Cheese Fest. Owner Erica Garcia says the goal is to give a San Antonians an affordable taste of what the company does with its festivals.
Garcia says the idea came about after one of her team members visited Los Angeles and realized that markets like Smorgasburg and New York’s Brooklyn Flea could easily translate to the Alamo City.
Each weekly installment will feature an array of vendors offering street food, artisan goods, and vintage treasures. Garcia says she has received an overwhelming response from the community, but is still taking applications to ensure a curated experience.
“I want to keep it fresh and vibrant,” she says of the vendor lineup.
Part of that vibrancy will come from the location. “I see the East Side growing a lot,” explains Garcia of the locale. In fact, the Near East Side entertainment hub has seen a boon in the past few years, including the recent opening of Lilly’s Greenville from Francis Bogside and Hanzo owner Steve Mahoney.
The Pop Up is currently scheduled to run through December 15. After a short winter break during the holidays, Garcia says the schedule will resume in February.
