La Panadería teases opening date of anticipated Southtown location
La Panadería is finally nearing the finish line of its Southtown location
The owners have teased a new San Antonio location since 2024, and the signs have been up for months. Now La Panadería Bakery Café is finally revealing the opening timeline for its long-awaited Southtown outpost in the former home of Brown Coffee Co. at 812 South Alamo St. A rep says brothers José and David Cáceres are gearing up for an early 2027 debut.
Founded as a pop-up in 2013 at the Quarry Farmers Market, La Panadería has since become one of San Antonio's biggest culinary phenomena. In 2022, José became the first local to be nominated for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Baker, and the restaurant has been featured in multiple national publications, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and The Tamron Hall Show.
Over the last decade, it has also been on a growth spurt. The chain now has five locations, including its newest, opened in December 2025 at 1011 N. Loop 1604 E. in Stone Oak. The chain has also revealed an Alamo Ranch location will open in the Culebra Commons shopping center at West Loop 1604 N., bringing the grand total to seven.
Tourists and locals line up daily for pan dulce and fusion treats like the croncha — a hybrid between a croissant and a Mexican concha. Those seeking something more substantial can enjoy a variety of sandwiches and salads, as well as all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.
La Panadería has not revealed particulars about its bar program, but the newer spots have all included a full bar with beer, wine, and mimosa kits. Higher octane offerings include margaritas, palomas, spritzes, and coffee cocktails like carajillos.
In a statement, José says the company invested $2.2 million in the project, which suggests Brown’s minimalist space has been completely revamped. The restaurant estimates the location will employ 50 people.
“La Panadería’s new location in Southtown marks a new chapter of expansion for our business,” said José in the statement. “Southtown is a bustling center of arts, culture, and food, and we’re beyond excited to bring a piece of our heritage to this side of town.”
