New H-E-B in New Braunfels cooks up 2-story barbecue restaurant
H-E-B’s new store in New Braunfels features two firsts for the San Antonio-based grocery chain: the first two-story True Texas BBQ and the first Home by H-E-B department.
The new 122,000-square-foot store, which held its grand opening April 29, sits next to the site of the former H-E-B on South Walnut Avenue. The old store opened in 1994; it was about 40,000 square feet smaller than the new store.
The store’s two-story True Texas BBQ offers indoor seating on both levels. Texas Monthly has named H-E-B’s True Texas BBQ brand the best barbecue chain in the state.
The New Braunfels store also is the debut location of the Home by H-E-B concept.
Home by H-E-B, which the company plans to roll out at other stores, features two brands: Haven + Key and Texas Proud. Those brands offer hundreds of home textiles, pieces of décor, furniture, accent pieces, and other items.
Some of the items found at Home by H-E-B are:
- Hand-poured candles from Rustic Swank in New Braunfels.
- Leather goods from Lucio Tailoring Co. in San Antonio.
- Cowhide benches from Texas Bench Worx in Luling.
- Wood and antler art from Broken Antler in Converse.
The New Braunfels store, which employs more than 500 people, operates 6 am-11 pm seven days a week.
“With an enhanced in-store experience and commitment to top-quality service and selection, this new store is tailored to serve the needs of this growing community and provide our customers with the best we have to offer,” says Julie Bedingfield, public affairs manager at H-E-B.
