Legendary San Antonio Tex-Mex restaurant moves into downtown food hall

Teka Molino's menu includes iconic dishes like guacamole cups and puffy tacos.
San Antonio's Make Ready Market is keeping locals on their toes this month. Days after Garaje Cantina bar shuttered, landmark Alamo City Tex-Mex restaurant Teka Molino announced it would debut the River North food hall this summer.
Teka Molino has not issued a formal statement on its official channels, but the long-running mini-chain quietly put up signage at the market, at 203 8th St. The kiosk will replace Pescado Bravo, which closed in late January with a promise of "new adventures ahead." A representative from Make Ready Market says it will release more details soon, but advised the stall would open in June.
Teka Molino has been a San Antonio staple since 1937, quickly becoming synonymous with one of the city's most iconic dishes — the bean cup. The founding family is ingrained in the city's Tex-Mex DNA, with members going on to create Taco Hut and the now-closed Lala's Gordita's.
There's no word yet on whether Teka will serve an abbreviated menu, but the other two locations offer a classic mix of enchiladas, fajitas, and chalupas. Its puffy tacos landed the restaurant a spot on season two of Netflix's Taco Chronicles.
Although the Make Ready Market has seemingly been in flux in recent months, changeover is common at food halls, often used as low-pressure incubator spaces for new concepts. Since opening in 2017, Pearl's Bottling Department food hall has said goodbye to several kiosks, including The Good Kind, Tenko Ramen, Fletcher's Hamburgers, Maybelle's Donuts, Kineapple, and Bud's Southern Rotisserie Chicken.
Teka Molino's Make Ready debut follows the spring introduction of Alamo Ranch favorite Bowls N Go in the downtown space. While locals wait for the latest location, they can visit stores at 7231 San Pedro Ave. and 1007 Rittiman Rd #101.
