NEW CRUSH
Arizona-based wine café uncorks second location near San Antonio's Pearl
Though recent trend reports may lead customers to believe that everyone is happily chugging canned cocktails at home, there are still occasions that demand more elegant drinking. While wine consumption in the United States has declined for a few years, wine-based concepts are paradoxically expanding.
Phoenix-based Postino is the latest chain to make a big push. Fresh off popping the cork on its first San Antonio location in May 2023, the all-day wine bar and café is expanding to a second outpost at 2600 Broadway this spring.
Like the Rim location, the new Postino will serve a rotating list of boutique wines and Texas craft beer. The huge bottle list includes more than 30 by-the-glass offerings, all available for $6 during the location’s generous happy hour from open to 5 pm daily. Guests who can’t play hooky from work can visit Monday and Tuesday evenings for a $25 bottle and bruschetta board special.
In addition to a dozen bruschetta options, Postino also offers paninis, soups, salads, and a wide variety of light bites. Like the rest of the menu, the appetizers lean Mediterranean with choices like shrimp scampi, meatballs with goat cheese, and seasonal burrata.
Though Postino does have some interior hallmarks, like distinctive canary yellow umbrellas and roll-up garage doors, it prides itself on making each location unique. The designers scour local vintage shops for midcentury modern furniture and art objects and build custom walnut wine walls at each site.
The unique ‘50s building fit in naturally with the chain’s sleek retro style. It was the icing on the cake when the planners planned a location in the vibrant neighborhood.
“Honestly, it comes down to a feeling in my gut, and I’ve never felt better than I do about opening a Postino on the thriving Broadway Street corridor,” said Postino cofounder and CEO Lauren Bailey in a release. There is so much to love about San Antonio, including this gateway between Brackenridge Park, the Pearl, and historic downtown.”
