COMING ATTRACTIONS
Acclaimed dessert bar Nicosi to open new listening lounge at Pearl
Nicosi will expand its experiential approach to dessert with a new listening lounge.
One of San Antonio’s only three Michelin-starred restaurants is expanding its sensory experience. According to new state filings, Nicosi at Pearl’s Pullman Market will soon begin construction on a listening lounge off the main space.
A rep for the dessert bar confirmed that the new addition was coming but could not yet offer details. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) project details say the 656-square-foot space would include a “small display bar” and seating.
Nicosi debuted in June 2024, bringing the Japanese omakase experience to desserts. The prix fixe menus explore the full palate of flavors, including savory, to “push the boundaries on the thresholds of acid, umami, bitter, and sweet in desserts,” according to chef and partner Tavel Bristol-Joseph.
The restaurant is also wrapped in velvet curtains to provide a dramatic setting. Like any good theater, it doesn’t allow phones — encouraging diners to interact with the chefs and other guests instead of scrolling through Kelly Clarkson’s latest bird-related missive.

In its two brief years, it has become one of Alamo City’s most celebrated restaurants. It was among Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America in 2024, which also named Bristol-Joseph and then chef de cuisine Karla Espinosa the Pastry Chefs of the Year. The Michelin star came a year later.
And in 2026, Nicosi was one of only two San Antonio restaurants singled out for James Beard Award finalist nods. Bristol-Joseph’s work was highlighted among four other U.S. innovators in the Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker category.
Although Nicosi’s rep is keeping hush-hush, an auditory experience is at peace with the overall concept. Still, audiophiles will likely have to wait until next year to hear what’s on the soundtrack. The TDLR listing says renovations won’t wrap up until late January 2027.
