SUDDEN SHUTTERS
San Antonio brunch bar with dozens of mimosas to close after 2 years

Mimosa Gossip is known for its eye-popping assortment of the bubbly cocktail.
The bubbles have gone flat for another San Antonio restaurant. Brunch spot Mimosa Gossip, located at 2907 N Loop 1604 E, says it will permanently close on January 29 after two years in the Stone Oak area.
“It is with great sadness that we announce Mimosa Gossip will be closing its doors,” wrote the business on social media. “We want to sincerely thank everyone who has helped make the past two years a success.”
Sisters Heather Whiting and Julia Smith first opened the North Side eatery in November 2023 with a simple mission — to offer as many mimosa varieties as possible. The menu currently boasts an eye-popping 41 flavors ranging from the simple cherry-tinged Pucker up to the jittery Blue Bell made with Red Bull and blueberry.
The food menu features an array of classic brunch fare like bagel sandwiches, avocado toast, chicken and waffles, and cheesecake-stuffed French toast. Lunch entrees, such as a fried green tomato burger and a club sandwich, lean more savory, along with appetizers like deep-fried deviled eggs and southwest egg rolls.
Just as important as the food and drink is the overall vibe. The restaurant leaned into Millennial aesthetics with hot pink neon signs, barn doors, squiggly lighting fixtures, and pops of rainbow color appearing on everything from the vibrant drinks to the sprinkles on a waffle.
Mimosa Gossip did not offer a reason for the sudden shutter in its going-away message, but it hinted at business troubles in November 2025, saying the government shutdown and "hard economic times" has slowed down business. And, in parting, it fired a few shots at toxic chismosas.
“To our support[er]s and haters, please remember that this business has always been built on passion, hard work, and a love for what we do,” the restaurant wrote. “These are real people with real livelihoods, and kindness…always matters.”
