REVOLVING DOORS
San Antonio's last Genghis Grill closes as new Greek eatery moves in

Genghis Grill has closed its last San Antonio location.
It’s out with Mongolian barbecue and in with Mediterranean cuisine. San Antonio’s last Genghis Grill restaurant has quietly closed at 1903 N Loop 1604 #1106 as a new concept, Two Greeks Grill, prepares to move in by early 2026.
Genghis Grill, founded in 1998 by Dallas-based entrepreneur Jeff Sinell, did not officially announce the closure. It's unclear when the eatery shuttered, but it was still active on Facebook as of December 16.
Still, the stir-fry chain seems to be struggling nationwide. The once-mighty chain once had over 100 locations, but a series of nationwide closures has winnowed its footprint to a mere 16 restaurants.
According to KSAT 12, another San Antonio Genghis Grill closed in 2023 after a health inspection found multiple dead roaches and no hot water in the bar area. Soon after, an eviction notice was slapped on the door for unpaid rent.
The chain’s losses, however, were a gain to Jerry Kouroumousis and Nick Zaimis, the proprietors of Two Greeks Grill. In an email, a rep says the restaurant will be serving traditional gyros made with a choice of pork, chicken, and the American doner style — typically a compacted beef and lamb blend shaved from a trompo-like cone.
The spot will also serve popular dishes like souvlaki, kebabs, whole chickens, and lamb chops. The rep says the fare is all made in-house from cherished family recipes.
“We’re just two Greek family members bringing what San Antonio has been missing for many years now, authentic traditional Greek food,” explains the spokesperson. “We are bringing the favorites of basically what every Greek in Greece eats.”
Two Greeks Grill has not announced an exact opening date yet, but Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation project details estimate the renovations will be finished in late May. San Antonio locals can follow the restaurant on social media for updates.
