This week, San Antonio's food scene is brewing up restaurant openings, coffee truck expansions, and streaming stardom. Southtown's new Stranded Coffee brick-and-mortar generates buzz, while Sari-Sari has a prime opportunity on Amazon.

Openings

Illinois-based beverage franchise Candy Cloud is drifting to 11619 Bandera Rd. #106. Founders Alex and Paityn Edwards started the concept as a farmer's market flower shop, a small ray of light following the loss of their daughter. The couple soon shifted focus to drinks and sweet treats, opening their first brick-and-mortar in 2021. Although the business has several locations in the Midwest, the San Antonio shop will be its debut in Texas. According to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records, construction is set to be completed in late June.

Houston's Crust Pizza Co. is creeping closer to Alamo City. The Chicago-style pizza chain is accepting applications for a new Cibolo location at 813 Cibolo Valley #170. The restaurant has not released an exact opening date, but TDLR filings predict a November completion date.

Southtown java joint Stranded Coffee will debut its second location — and first brick-and-mortar — at 716 S. Alamo St. on March 2. The owners will celebrate the grand opening with breakfast sandwiches from Church Burger and vegan doughnuts from Cake Thieves Bakery.

Other news and notes

One of San Antonio's standouts will soon have a global audience. Sari-Sari is one of the subjects of Authentic or Not, a new Amazon Prime documentary exploring the international interpretations of Filipino cuisine. The restaurant will host a film preview at 6:30 pm on March 2 ahead of its April release. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and include a buffet feast.

Beleaguered brewery Alamo Beer Co. is back in action after a brief hiatus. The long-running Dignowity Hill spot filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protections in February, then paused operations for two weeks. According to an Instagram post, the business will now be open Wednesday and Thursday, 3-10 pm; Friday and Saturday, noon to 10 pm; and Sunday, noon to 6 pm. The brewery will kick off the re-emergence with the return of Karaoke Under the Stars on February 28.
