Editor’s note: The bustling San Antonio beer scene is always changing — usually with openings and closures, but there are other twists along the way. Let's discuss it over a cold one.

Beer festival slated

Local craft beer fans can get their fill at the annual Brewsology Beer Fest, which will be happening the evening of March 15 at the Witte Museum.

Taking place in 10 other cities around the nation, Brewsology Beer Fest gives visitors a chance to experience a beer festival at a museum.

Nearly 40 breweries and cideries, many of which are from Texas, will offer samples of their beers. Participating local breweries will include Freetail Brewing Co., Longtab Brewing Co., Back Unturned Brewing Co., Southerleigh Brewing Co., Kunstler Brewing Co., Breakaway Brewing Co., Cactus Land Brewing Co., Alamo Beer Co., and Highwheel from Dorcol Distilling and Brewing.

Additionally, 28 Songs Brewhouse and Kitchen from Boerne, and Blanco’s Texas Cannon Brewing Co. will be represented at the beer festival.

Tickets are $50 for general admission and $65 for early bird entry. All festival attendees will have access to the museum’s exhibits.

Alamo Beer reopens after brief closure

Alamo Beer Co. reopened its doors February 28 following a short closure that began in the middle of February.

The team at the East Side brewery celebrated the reopening by hosting Karaoke Under the Stars, a weekly activity.

Local craft beer supporters have spent months speculating about the future of Alamo Beer, whose officials last year listed the property for sale, and earlier this year filed for company bankruptcy.

While brewery officials did not share reasons for the temporary closure of the facility, Alamo Beer is using its social media channels to regularly promote events being held at the brewery, such as live music shows and Bingo games, as well as beer specials.

Celebrate St. Paddy’s Day at Idle

Idle Beer Hall and Brewery Idle Beer Hall and Brewery will host a St. Patrick’s Day celebration on March 17, from noon to midnight.

The folks at the downtown area brewery will offer several $5 drink specials, such as cucumber lime blonde green beer, house-brewed stout, green tea shot, and a shot of The Busker Irish whiskey. Visitors can also enjoy a frozen Irish coffee for $10.
