HAPPY RETURNS
Healthy casual chain returns to San Antonio after temporary closure
After closing last May, Bellagreen is making a comeback.
After almost two years, the scaffolding has come down at the 1900 Broadway building near the Pearl District — and a major restaurant is coming back. Fast-casual bistro Bellagreen will reopen in June after going on hiatus to ride out the construction disruptions.
After debuting its first San Antonio location in November 2024, Bellagreen temporarily shuttered in May 2025, only operating for six months. In social media and direct statements, the business said it was waiting for building repairs to be completed.
The facade work has been ongoing since summer 2024, when a manufacturing error caused masonry debris to fall from the building. Due to safety concerns, a tangle of scaffolding was erected around Jefferson Bank's headquarters so workers could begin painstakingly replacing the stone.
Although Bellagreen opened while the scaffolding was on the building, the original 2025 timeline was delayed. Temporary vinyl signage was erected for the restaurant and neighbors The Newstand and Nineteen Hyaku, but the sunny dining room was shadowed by the staging and its full branding was not on view.
The Richardson-based Bellagreen, previously known by the very Jellicle name Ruggles Green, is known for its better-for-you approach to quick dining. With a menu heavily leaning on bistro fare packed with lean proteins and vegetables and an enviable location, it was a potential lunchtime hit among downtown workers starved for fresher options.
"We believe in living a balanced life, and our menu reflects that with delicious and abundant options,” the company said in a previous statement. “With made-for-you dishes, quick and friendly service, and charitable ties, our guests can feel good about their dining choice.”
