7 San Antonio restaurants saluting service members with Veterans Day deals

In an effort to thank local veterans and active military members this Veterans Day, some patriotic San Antonio restaurants are serving up specials on Wednesday, November 11.

One Texas-based restaurant group is even dishing out complimentary Patriot Burgers to veterans and donating a portion of its sales to a veteran-focused nonprofit.

Here are the top San Antonio eateries celebrating our national heroes this Veterans Day with special deals.

Max's Wine Dive and Boiler House
Through December 31, all restaurant concepts owned by the Lasco Enterprises group — including Max’s Wine Dive at Quarry Village and Boiler House on Pearl Parkway — will feature chef-created Patriot Burgers, with $5 from the sale of each burger donated to Combined Arms, a Texas charity that helps veterans transition from the military to civilian life. The group hopes to sell at least 2,000 Patriot Burgers before year’s end in order to raise $25,000 for Combined Arms.

Max’s Wine Dive’s Patriot Burger includes an 8-ounce beef patty with a chile relleno stuffed with white cheddar cheese and braised short ribs, and is garnished with Mornay sauce, avocado, and cilantro. Boiler House’s Patriot Burger, created by chef Jarrad Gwaltney, features an 8-ounce chile-infused smoked pork patty, queso Oaxaca, grilled pineapple, poblano peppers, onions, cilantro, and achiote mayonnaise, all served on a toasted bolillo bun.

Both are available for dine-in service, curbside pickup, and third-party delivery, and will also be provided free of charge to veterans on Veterans Day.

The Rustic
The San Antonio outpost of The Rustic, located at The Rim shopping center, is offering free Rustic Burgers to all veterans and active military members who show a valid military ID.

Torchy’s Tacos
The Texas-born taco chain, which also has a location at The Rim shopping center, as well as Lincoln Heights and on Sonterra Place, is providing veterans and active military members with a complimentary taco and non-alcoholic beverage from its special Veterans Day menu. Available tacos include chicken fajita; beef fajita; Trailer Park (fried chicken, green chiles, lettuce, pico de gallo, cheddar-Jack cheese with poblano sauce on a flour tortilla); Trailer Park Trashy (a Trailer Park taco with queso subbed in for the lettuce); and the fried avocado taco.

Veterans must show a valid military ID or proof of service. The special menu items are available for dine-in service and pickup.

Tarka Indian Kitchen
Tarka Indian Kitchen in Stone Oak is offering a complimentary entree to military service members who show a U.S. military ID. This promotion is available for dine-in service only.

Pluckers Wing Bar
Pluckers, which has two San Antonio locations, is providing veterans and active-duty military members with a complimentary meal when they dine in on Veterans Day.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar
Hopdoddy's locations at The Rim and The Vineyard shopping centers are offering service men and women and veterans a complimentary burger when they stop by in military uniform or show a valid military ID. The special is available for dine-in service and pickup.

Pluckers scores Spurs partnership with first arena stand and free wings

Pluckers is opening a new Frost Bank Center concession stand and offering a fun home game deal.

A match made in sports snacks heaven has been announced. The San Antonio Spurs are teaming up Pluckers Wing Bar, a Central Texas go-to for chicken wings that was founded in Austin. The partnership includes arrival of Pluckers' first concession stand at Frost Bank Center, plus a chance to redeem free wings after some games. It is expected to open in January 2025.

According to a press release, the new stand will be located at Section 222 on the Balcony Level. It will be open for all home games and arena events.

Pluckers is known for its sports bar atmosphere and wide selection of flavors, which includes classics like Buffalo sauce with multiple heat levels and variations on barbecue sauce, or more left-field combinations like maple chipotle and Dr Pepper. It already has five locations in San Antonio, and 13 between Austin and San Antonio.

Those locations will come in handy for a promotion starting December 19, preceding the Frost Bank Center location's opening. The new partnership includes a “5 Assists, 5 Free Wings” promotion, which will set fans at the arena up with digital vouchers during all regular season home games, starting with the Thursday game against the Atlanta Hawks.

The Spurs will have to record five or more assists within the 2nd quarter — then all fans in attendance will get five free wings from Pluckers. Vouchers can be redeemed at any Pluckers in the San Antonio area, excluding the one in the arena.

“We have been eager to partner with the Spurs since we opened our first San Antonio area location in 2018,” said Pluckers owner David Paul in the release. “We’re very excited to bring Pluckers food to the Frost Bank Center and give Spurs fans a chance to receive our famous five free wing coupon.”

Pluckers has run similar promotions in other Texas cities for years, so hopefully San Antonio fans are entering into a long-term relationship with free chicken wings.
