Popular pizza joint Dough Pizzeria Napoletana is rolling out a new San Antonio location, this time in the heart of downtown. On April 19, the pizzeria announced it will take over a slice of the southwest corner of Hemisfair, setting up shop at South Alamo Street and East César E. Chávez Boulevard.
Since opening its Blanco Road shop in 2007, Dough has maintained a reputation for bringing quality, inventive pies to Alamo City in part because of its certification from the prestigious Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani. (After all, there's a reason why it landed among our best places to get a slice and received a nod for our 2018 CultureMap Tastemaker Awards.)
Because the brand adheres to such strict standards, its pizzas are true to the Neapolitan style with a chewy, charred crust and sparse but thoughtful toppings. Among the specialty options available on Dough's menu are the Arugula & Prosciutto with house-made mozzarella and truffle vinaigrette and the Pork Love, made with house-made spicy sausage, an assortment of meats, house-made mozzarella, and tomato sauce. In addition to pies, Dough offers appetizers like meatballs, antipasti, and burrata, as well as salads and desserts.
“We’re thrilled to bring Dough downtown and join all the exciting developments throughout Hemisfair,” says Chef Horn, co-owner of Dough, in a release. Dough joins three other tenants — Paleteria San Antonio, Con Safos, and CommonWealth — in the bustling Hemisfair, creating a walkable district in the heart of downtown.
In keeping with this downtown destination vibe, Dough's interior will include three distinct dining spaces: a pizza bar, an outdoor patio overlooking the park, and an atrium with sliding doors to create a semi-private space for parties.
This marks Dough's second shop in San Antonio and third in Texas. (The mini-chain also opened a Plano locale in 2016.) Though an exact opening date has yet to be announced, the restaurant says it should be open sometime in May.
