Life in midtown San Antonio just got a lot sweeter: Cult-favorite restaurant and bakery La Panadería is opening a new location on Saturday, October 13. The new restaurant is located at 2503 Broadway St., where the now-closed Fratello's Restaurant and Deli used to be.

La Panadería is a popular eatery for San Antonians and tourists alike, and is well known for its Mexican pastries and sweet breads like conchas, as well as more dainty French items like croissants (brought back to Mexico with a tequila infusion). Those without a sweet tooth can enjoy an array of sandwiches and salads, as well as all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner offerings.

The new Midtown Broadway café will feature an expanded patio for guests to revel in the scenery of the Broadway Cultural Corridor while munching on an Instagram-worthy pan dulce. The café will also offer a selection of fresh juices, coffee, wine, beer, and cocktails to keep guests' thirst quenched.

As CultureMap previously reported, La Panadería co-owners and brothers David and José Cáceres first teased the new Midtown Broadway café opening in February 2024. It is the fourth brick-and-mortar location the Cáceres brothers have opened since La Panadería's founding in 2013. The duo also operate a nearby La Panadería restaurant at 8305 Broadway St., a flagship café in downtown San Antonio, and a third location in La Cantera Heights.

There's still more to come in 2024: A 6,600-square-foot restaurant in Stone Oak is planned for December, while a new concept, dubbed La Panadería Express, is expected to open in La Cantera Shopping Center sometime later this year.

The new Midtown Broadway café will have soft opening hours from 8 am to 3 pm from October 13-14. Starting October 15, regular hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 am to 8 pm, and Saturday through Sunday from 7 am to 6 pm.
