Where to Drink Now
Where to drink in San Antonio right now: 5 hot spots to sip and socialize
Who cares if it’s cold outside? There’s a lot going on in San Antonio, so get out of the house, savor some great company, and make new friends at these local saloons. These five spots will get your new year off to a warm, boozy start.
The Hoppy Monk
This is a serious drink menu: beers for days, so much so our group just started ordering with reckless abandon. Not a beer drinker? You’re still in luck. The Hoppy Monk has an impressive spirits program with many scotches and whiskeys. Ever the gentleman’s spot, you can also enjoy cigars and wine.
Stir
We recently popped into this little gem while waiting on dinner reservations. Helmed by Olaf Harmel, it's no wonder this spot stays really busy. We loved it so much, in fact, that we were late for dinner.
Grayze
This brand-new restaurant and bar has a farm-chic vibe with over-the-top attention to detail. The bar feels separate from the restaurant, in a good way. We think this will be a great new spot to enliven Grayson Street. Bonus: The food is good too.
SoHo Wine & Martini Bar
The drinks are cold and the bar is fast: a perfect combination when you plan on dropping in for a quick cocktail. But add the great jazz bands that are always playing and the laid-back atmosphere, and you could end up here all night. We certainly did, and we were incredibly happy about it.
The Pigpen
The owners of Smoke Shack bring your newest neighborhood barbecue bar to life with plenty of beer on tap and a full bar. There’s also a nice sized playground and an impressive patio with a Smoke Shack trailer — the best of both worlds. The smoke-infused Bloody Mary has our name written all over it.
