Massive traveling vintage market makes first San Antonio stop

Thriftcon will bring thousands of retro fits from the 1970s-2000s
San Antonians looking for one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories will want to head to the Freeman Coliseum at 3201 East Houston St. on November 8. Thriftcon, a massive touring vintage market, is coming to the Alamo City for the first time with '70s flares, preppy '80s rugby shirts, and '90s grunge.
Friends Mars Conte, David Bywater, and Ken Meade started Thriftcon in 2019, first as a Denver, Colorado phenomenon. Since then, the market has expanded to a roadshow with more than 100 national vendors curating mini-boutiques filled with retro clothing, estate jewelry, and even home goods from the 1970s-2000s. (Yes, we regret to inform you, Juicy Couture is now vintage.)
Although "thrift" is in the name, planners say that guests shouldn't always expect rock-bottom prices. Some of the items are highly collectible with stickers to match. Most of the finds, however, hover in the $10-$50 range, with some selling as low as one dollar.
True bargain hunters (and resellers) can spend the day picking through bins. Thriftcon will include over 10,000 pounds of bulk vintage, priced as low as $10 per pound.
Hypebeasts will want to check out The Vault, presented by vintage authentication app Legiteem8. The area collects some of the most valuable vintage t-shirts on the market (known as "grails" in the biz), including rare band t-shirts.
Elsewhere, the Creator's Corner features upcyclers and designers who refashion vintage stock. And a gift shop features merch like stickers, tote bags, accessories, and reworked shirts.
Thriftcon's San Antonio stop is one of only two Texas legs. The show will also stop by Houston's NRG Center on October 18-19. General admission tickets start at $17, with a $40 early pass available for an extra hour of shopping. The November 8 event runs from 10 am-5 pm.
