Spacecon lands in San Antonio with William Shatner, Josh Brolin, and more

Star Trek's William Shatner is one of the many actors attending Spacecon.
Something brand new in this galaxy is coming to San Antonio: The first Spacecon is coming to San Antonio's Freeman Coliseum over the weekend, from October 25-27. The three-day sci-fi convention brings stars from Star Wars, Stark Trek, the Marvel Universe, and other franchises together to meet fans and give talks.
The event promises celebrity and comic artist appearances, panel discussions, opportunities for photos and autographs, cosplay competitions, and more.
Some high points on the schedule include "interactive Jedi experiences" with a local lightsaber performance club, a talk about the resurgence of fandom culture, and insight into Universe building with Jim Starlin (who created the Marvel character Thanos).
This con is family-friendly, and kids who might not be invested in a show from the late 60s can try out a free-play "Starcade" and take part in some pre-Halloween trick-or-treating at the various booths.
There are some big names on the lineup, including:
- William Shatner
- Josh Brolin
- Ewan McGregor
- Hayden Christensen
- Rosario Dawson
- Giancarlo Esposito
- Ming-Na Wen
- Mary Elizabeth Winstead
- Brent Spiner
Alongside the celebrity events, more than 150 exhibitors will be attending. They'll be selling toys, collectibles, swords, light sabers, books, art, imported items, and even snacks.
Passes (single day starting at $75, three days for $199) are available at spaceconsa.com. Kids under 14 attend for free. Starcon takes place at Freeman Coliseum's Expo Halls (3201 E Houston St.) from 11 am to 7 pm Friday, 10 am to 8 pm Saturday, and 10 am to 5 pm Sunday. More information is also available on the Spacecon app, which can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store.
