STAR STRUCK
The Boys, Stranger Things stars swoop into San Antonio for fan fest

San Antonio's Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center will transform into a pop culture hub from October 17-19 for Big Texas Comicon, promising three days of star-studded panels, exclusive merchandise, and opportunities to rub elbows with favorite celebrities.
Easily the hottest name on the list is Antony Starr, who portrays Homelander on Prime Video's gloriously vulgar superhero series The Boys. Originally written by Garth Ennis, Homelander is a hyper-violent, self-absorbed superhero who degenerates into madness throughout the show. Luckily for convention goers, the New Zealand actor is renowned for being kind and welcoming to fans. He will be appearing Saturday and Sunday to sign autographs, take pictures, and participate in a $250 premium fan event.
Starr is not the only streaming celebrity appearing. Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays the villainous One/Vecna in Netflix's Stranger Things, will attend. Bower shined as the new big bad in the period piece horror series, menacing Hawkins, Indiana, from the Upside-Down. The long-awaited fifth and final season is set to premiere this November, so fans should probably not expect Bower to reveal anything too juicy.

Other talent announcements include Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Michael Jai White (Spawn), Martin Kove (Cobra Kai), Henry Winkler (Scream, Happy Days), and the legendary wrestling tag team The Hardy Boys. More unexpected names include Naked Gun's Priscilla Presley, Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green from Beverly Hills 90210, and McLovin himself, Christopher Mintz-Plasse. The latter at least has some comics cred as an antagonist in Kick-Ass.
Big Texas Comic was first launched in 2019 and has grown into one of the largest fandom events in San Antonio. It has garnered a reputation for landing big-name celebrities and handling the flow of fans well. Lines at comic conventions are always a present, but Big Texas has handled the growing pains of a successful event without descending into chaos.

Like all conventions, there will be a cosplay contest, an artist alley, vendors, panels, and other events. More details on content will likely be announced closer to the opening date.
Tickets, available online, range from $30.20 for a single-day pass to $267.90 for a three-day express package. All autographs, photo ops, and fan events are separately priced aside from general admission and should be purchased ahead of time.
